“This song is about growing up aimless and finding both the joys and pains in life along the way. The highs and lows are always coming and going like the tide… and as you get older, the fear that can creep in when not knowing the next move in life – especially when you’re broke, gotta pay your bills and expenses, when you never really learned how to take care of yourself in the first place.” – DENM

Reminiscing about his trials and tribulations, this new song makes your heart hurt a little, as DENM laments the unpredictable nature of life: “No one said that growing up would be this hard // Yeah, life’s a gamble and I got some sh**ty cards.” Yet, seconds later, you find yourself hopeful again as he clarifies his perspective, “Hard times keep me growing // But I think they’ll be done soon.” In the same vein, the direction of the song emits rays of happiness, joy, and contentment throughout DENM’s growing pains. The track highlights DENM’s slick vocals and eclectic reggae/rock style, transporting the listener into the passenger seat of an old convertible, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, and tapping along to every beat. It’s this juxtaposition between real, raw lyrics and an upbeat, carefree sound that makes this song closely relatable, yet still evoking curiosity about how one should handle their own trials and tribulations.
