Alborosie

Alborosie, born Alberto D'Ascola in Marsala, Sicily, Italy, is one of the most authentic and respected roots reggae artists of his generation. Having relocated to Jamaica in the late 1990s, he immersed himself in the island's music culture, learning to play multiple instruments and absorbing the deep roots tradition firsthand. His journey from Italy to Jamaica is one of the most remarkable stories in modern reggae.

After working as a sound engineer and session musician at Tuff Gong Studios — the legendary studio founded by Bob Marley — Alborosie launched his solo career with the 2008 debut album "Soul Pirate," which was recorded entirely in Jamaica and showcased his mastery of classic roots reggae production. The album was a critical and commercial success, establishing him as a genuine force in the genre.

Alborosie has since released a string of acclaimed albums and collaborated with reggae legends including Sizzla, Bunny Wailer, and Romain Virgo. His sound is deeply rooted in the Studio One and Channel One traditions, featuring live instrumentation, conscious lyrics, and an unmistakable vintage feel. Albums like "Escape from Babylon" (2009), "2 Times Revolution" (2010), and "Specialist Presents Alborosie & the Shengen Clan" (2013) have cemented his place as one of roots reggae's most important contemporary voices.
