Biography

311 is an American rock band formed in 1988 in Omaha, Nebraska, whose genre-defying sound blends reggae, rock, hip-hop, and funk into one of the most distinctive and enduring styles in alternative music. The band consists of Nick Hexum (vocals/guitar), S.A. Martinez (vocals/DJ), Tim Mahoney (guitar), P-Nut (bass), and Chad Sexton (drums).

The band broke through to mainstream success with their self-titled 1995 album, which went platinum and produced the hit singles "Down" and "All Mixed Up." Their reggae-influenced grooves, positive lyrical philosophy, and explosive live performances quickly built them a devoted fanbase known as the "311 Nation." Their annual 311 Day celebration on March 11th draws thousands of fans to special concerts.

311 has released 13 studio albums and is one of the most consistent touring acts in American rock. Their influence on the reggae rock genre — alongside Sublime and Pepper — helped bring Jamaican rhythms to a new generation of American rock fans. Albums like "Grassroots" (1994), "Transistor" (1997), and "Soundsystem" (1999) are cornerstones of the genre.
